Blood banks

Reduction of transmission risk

Blood transfusions are a major source of viral infections throughout the world, and testing donated blood is a critical part of keeping the blood supply as safe as possible. Blood blanks routinely screen blood, plasma, organs, and tissues for infectious agents. bloodbanks

Immunoassays that detect viral antibodies have traditionally been used as a surrogate marker for viral infection. Improvements in molecular technologies have allowed direct detection of viruses earlier after infection, thus closing the window period when blood may be infectious without the presence of detectable antibodies. Most blood banks now use both immunoassay and molecular technology to reduce the risk of disease transmission.

PlasmAcute immunoassays have shown outstanding sensitivity compared to both traditional immunoassays and molecular tests. The Company is currently undertaking extensive clinical studies to validate these findings.
